Stainless Steel Butt Weld Tee Equal & Reducing Type ASME B16.9

Category Tag

This stainless steel butt weld tee is designed for branch connections in ASME B16.9 piping systems. It supports equal tee and reducing tee configurations, so engineers can match flow direction, pipe size and system layout requirements more easily.

  • Versatile Branch Connection: Create 90-degree branch connections for industrial piping systems.

  • ASME B16.9 Dimensions: Designed for factory-made wrought butt-welding fitting requirements.

  • Multiple Material Grades: Available in 304, 316L, duplex 2205, 2507 and 904L options.

  • Global Standard Support: Suitable for projects requiring ASME, ASTM, DIN, JIS or GB references.

  • System Integration: Works with matching butt-weld elbows, reducers, caps and stainless steel pipe systems.

Stainless Steel Butt Weld Tee for Industrial Piping Systems

A stainless steel butt weld tee provides a strong and permanent branch connection for industrial piping systems. Unlike threaded or press-fit fittings, butt weld tees are welded directly into the pipeline to create a continuous metal connection for demanding service conditions.

This equal and reducing tee design supports 90-degree branch connections in chemical processing, water treatment, power generation, shipbuilding and other industrial piping systems. In addition, the smooth internal transition helps support stable flow and reduce unnecessary turbulence at the branch point.

Equal vs. Reducing Tee: Choosing the Right Configuration

  • Equal Tee: Equal tees are suitable when the main pipe and branch pipe use the same nominal size. Therefore, they are often used for simple branch distribution in straight piping layouts.

  • Reducing Tee: Reducing tees are used when the branch outlet has a different size from the main run. As a result, they help connect pipes with different diameters without adding a separate reducer in the branch line.

Before ordering, confirm the main pipe size, branch size, wall thickness, material grade and project standard. This helps ensure that the selected tee matches the piping layout and welding requirements.

Engineering Excellence at Every Branch Point

  • Seamless or Welded Construction: Available in seamless (for sizes up to DN600) or welded (for larger diameters) configurations, both manufactured to strict dimensional tolerances.

  • Reinforced Branch Design: The branch junction is engineered to withstand internal pressure, thermal stress, and external loads – critical for long-term reliability in demanding environments.

  • Smooth Bore Transition: Precision manufacturing ensures a smooth internal surface at the branch intersection, minimizing turbulence and pressure drop.

Materials Engineered for Extreme Environments

Material selection should match the medium, temperature, pressure, corrosion risk and project standard. For this reason, Nonleak offers butt weld tee options in common austenitic and duplex stainless steel grades.

Material Grade Key Properties Typical Applications
304/304L Excellent corrosion resistance, good formability General chemical, food processing, water treatment
316/316L Superior chloride resistance, higher strength Marine, pharmaceutical, coastal facilities
Duplex 2205 Twice the yield strength of 316L, excellent SCC resistance Offshore platforms, desalination, sour service
Duplex 2507 Super duplex, extreme corrosion and pitting resistance Highly aggressive chemical, high-chloride environments

Global Standard Compliance

This product is designed for projects that require recognized dimensional and material standards. ASME B16.9 is commonly used for factory-made wrought butt-welding fittings, including dimensions, tolerances, testing and markings. In addition, ASTM A403/A403M is commonly referenced for wrought austenitic stainless steel pressure piping fittings.

Nonleak can support project requirements based on ASME, ASTM, DIN, JIS, GB and other applicable standards. However, final material grade, wall thickness and inspection documents should be confirmed according to each project specification.

All tees are manufactured and tested to meet or exceed:

  • ASME B16.9 – Factory-Made Wrought Butt-welding Fittings

  • GB/T 12459-2005 – Seamless Butt-welding Pipe Fittings

  • GB/T 13401-2005 – Plate-Formed Butt-welding Pipe Fittings

  • DIN 2615 – Steel Butt-welding Pipe Fittings – Tees

  • SH3408 / SH3409 / SH3410 – Petrochemical Industry Standards

  • HG/T21635, DL/T695, SY/T0510 – Industry-Specific Standards
